He was in class 3rd when he got his National Talent Contest (NCT) selection conducted by Sports Authority of India (SAI) in 1987. Till completing studies, he didn’t spend a single penny from his pocket for school fees and other things as he got sports scholarship. All that came under NCT scholarship. He was awarded best footballer of year award by J&K Government. Majid has played in one under-21 national football championship, which was held at Kapurthala.
The first club that Majid joined was YMC and for two years he was captain of the team. It was during that period he was selected for Santosh Trophy team in 1999. It was dream come true for Majid as in JK team players like Zahoor Teli were playing and he was youngest member of team. The Santosh Trophy was held in Ooty Tamil Nadu. Returning from the tournament, Majid was straight selected for the JK Bank team and from that time he is regular member of team. Majid participated in second Santosh Trophy at Kerala. Experts say that Majid is a fighting player and can change course of game at any moment. On the field he does lot of hard work and he concentrates hard on fitness. Technically and tactically he is sound and has got the versatility to play both as midfielder and wing back. He has also got the surprise element of scoring goals, which at times proves decider.
Psychologically he is tough but during this tournament he should control his emotions as at times he gets more involved in match. For JK team Majid can turn out as player to watch in the upcoming Santosh Trophy.
Majid thinks that JK has a great chance to win Santosh Trophy and he himself is pretty determined to perform in the tournament.
“It is just a matter of planning as individual efforts doesn’t matter. If JK has to perform well, we have to play like team. We have great chance to win this edition of tournament and all are working hard in a team including coach and manager,” Majid said.
