Srinagar, Oct 20: The well known footballer of state has earned distinction of officially being part of the just concluded Common Wealth Games-2010 held in New Delhi from October 3 to 14.
The former JK Bank footballer, Majid Yusuf Dar who was part of CWG -2010 event as assistant project officer has termed the experience as greatest in his sporting career.
“It was great to be part of such a mega sporting event. I have been part of many big events in past but CWG was greatest of them all” Majid told Greater Kashmir from New Delhi were he is still part of games organising committee.
Majid a JK Bank footballer who has represented state in almost every national level event during his career joined Naval Tata Centre of Excellence in Sports Management, Kolkatta two years back for pursuing post Graduation in Sports Management. During course of the study he was part of various international events like, World Cup Hockey and Nehru Cup football tournament.
After completing the post graduation, he got opportunity to be part of CWG organising committee as Asstt Project Officer which he gabbed quickly without having any second thought.
“Shortly after completing my study I got opportunity to work with CWG, organising committee in sports functional area as an assistant project officer which I quickly accepted. There was no second thought in my mind while accepting the offer and signing the contract because there can be no other opportunity like this in near future,” Majid said. “The events like CWG are hosted by countries once in decades and in that respect I was lucky to get opportunity and to be part of it”.
During mega event Majid was attached with DDG Sports / in charge of Cluster-IV which included Archery, Badminton, Squash, Table Tennis and Tennis arenas. His work was to coordinate the smooth functioning of these events in the respective venues.
“We were assigned to coordinate smooth functioning of the events and manage things between competition manager and higher management like secretary general or chairman. We were responsible for solving any problem that used to arise anytime as soon as possible for smooth conduct of events” he said.

When asked about the experience and how it is going to help you in future, he said, “It is always great when you be part of any international level event because you see best people working around you. CWG was biggest event India has ever conducted in its history and I was lucky one to be associated with it officially.’
“I have already worked in Asian Archery, Nehru International Cup and in Hockey world Cup but this time it was altogether a totally different experience” he said.
Majid Dar son of former international footballer of state, Muhammad Yousuf Dar, during his career as a football player has represented state at various national levels besides representing JK bank team for a period of 10 years.
“I have been myself a player whatever I have achieved today is all because of sports. Now it is my moral duty to deliver it back whenever I would get an opportunity to work for the betterment and development of sports in the state” he said.
Praising his employers, JK Bank for encouraging him, Majid says, “Be it as a player or as an official I have got every support and help from my employers, JK Bank. Whatever I am today big part of its credit goes to JK Bank.”
Though the event has ended, Majid is still in New Delhi as part of organising committee and his contract ends on November 1.
“I have already worked in Asian Archery, Nehru International Cup and in Hockey world Cup but this time it was altogether a totally different experience” he said.
