JK Bank official at helm in managing the event
His experience will help us in

Srinagar, Apr 3: The World Cup finale saw titans clash in the finals in Mumbai but over days billions glued to the television sets watching matches after matches till the culmination of the event on Saturday and the management of such an event involved huge human resources from all over the world as professionals were roped in for the purpose and among them was from Kashmir.
The former JK Bank footballer, Majid Yousuf Dar, who recently completed P.G. course in Sports Management from Kolkatta, is working with sports management organization- Showtime Sports Management- which managed all the matches played in India during the past one and a half month.
The Indian Cricket Council (ICC) had outsourced the management of the World Cup matches in India to the company.Majid has been working with the Sportainment Division of the company during the post and pre-match activities at various stadiums since the day event started.
“After completing my sports management course I returned to Valley and joined back my parent organisation JK Bank. A few months ago I was offered the contract of event coordinator by Showtime Sports Management Group. Initially I was reluctant to accept the offer but JK Bank Sports Board not only encouraged me but even officially deputed me for the mega event” Majid told Greater Kashmir phone from Mumbai.“Majid is an asset to JKB. He has a legacy of sports
with him. His experience in the world cup and other international matches will
help us in our future programs. We have great plans for the overall improvement
of the standard of sports in the State,” said Chairman Sports Board JKB
Tafazzul Hussain.
The Sports Board Chairman said the sports can be given a major flip here with
the help of an experienced manager.
“His managerial skills will be utilized for the betterment of the sports in the
State. We want our players to enrich their experience in sports. Not only
soccer, we shall also bring cricket in priority list for all the three regions
of the state,” said Hussain. Majid has been associated with the World Cup 2011 from the day event started. He has traveled to different stadiums of the country as part of the coordination. He is the only Kashmiri to be officially associated with the event.
The event coordination job involves the stadium public announcements, audio, video setup, music, scoreboard, national anthems, advertisements and ICC songs, sponsorship activations during pre match, innings break.
About his journey so far in the event he said, “Initially I did 4-group matches at Jamtha, Nagpur between England -Netherlands, Australia-New Zealand, Zimbabwe-Canada and South Africa-India. After taking note of my performance I was again offered the contract at Kolkata for three Group matches at Eden Gardens and one quarterfinal match between India-Australia at Motera Ahmedabad”.
Impressed with his managerial skills the event company has involved Majid in the final match at Mumbai as well. “Though in final I am not directly involved in the operation part which I usually did in the past matches but still I reckon it big achievement” he said. Vice
Chairman Sports Board JKB Hamid Banday praised Majid for his talent.
“We are happy that a person from JKB is in one of the biggest sports event of
the world. Coordinating in these events is a big thing,” said Banday.
Notably, cricket world cup is the sixth international sports events where Majid
has coordinated.Majid has already given his service in the recently concluded Hockey World Cup,
Common Wealth Games, and Nehru International Football Gold Cup.
As a player Majid could not reach upto international level but he is satisfied that his new role as sports manager has allowed him to be part of mega international events
